Background/the Beginning
I grew up on a country farm down on the South Coast in a small town called Bodalla that is between beautiful Narooma and the more popular town of Bateman’s Bay. I had the best of both worlds the beach and the country life to ride my horses. At the age of five my mum enrolled me in to dance school to overcome being a shy kid, which has obviously helped in my career as a model as I have no issues with being on stage!
As a twelve-year-old starting high school I came across the kids that took up smoking and drinking as a way of relieving their boredom. I on the other hand was too busy and interested in the new found love of Athletics and trying to balance Ballet and Tap dancing at the same time. At 15 years old I really excelled in Athletics and eventually I had to give up dancing so I could add Strength and conditioning to my Athletics training program. I trained six days a week and each session lasting about two hours. The sessions consisted of Explosive Power and resistance training (in the gym and on the field) to Endurance and Sprint training.
I competed in Local to NSW Athletics and Cross Country events for six years and during one of the years the South Coast 400m relay team I was in placed third in the NSW All Schools Champs. I finally reached the Australian Athletics Champs in 1999 at age 17 I was ranked sixteenth in the 800m with a PB of 2mins and 19sec I first moved to Canberra in 2000 to study Sports Admin/Sports Studies.
While studying I started working as a 18 year old Promotional model after joining a modelling agency. I received a huge amount of modelling assignments while in Canberra and gained opportunities to promote many local and interstate businesses and brands in magazines and TV. My profile has increased over the time and I scored gigs including V8 Super cars Grid girl for FORD and V8 HOLDEN Brute Utes team (Sponsored by the famous Peter Brock). After completing studies I later moved to Sydney in 2004 to enhance my modelling career as well as searching for full time employment in the IT industry. I am also very committed in having a separate career outside modelling to fall back on.
I later joined a large sub contracting business in the IT industry where i still currently work as a NSW Branch Project/Call Coordinator.

When I moved to Sydney I had gained a lot of exposure as a model by joining several modelling agencies and self promoted myself on the Internet. I took part in various modelling pagents which I had placed top three including Miss Indy, Miss Inside Sport, Ralph Magazine Australian Sports model of the year to name a few. I then came to realise that I had found no real fun or a sense of achievement in the type of competitions I was entering and i wasn’t really satisfied in the results I was getting which was nothing real substantial so I gave up for a year to concentrate on work commitments.
This is around the time in April 2005 when my family suggested to enter into the NSW Country Sports model Competition for 'A Natural organisation’ which would be more suited to my lifestyle and personality as I have always been heavily involved in Athletics and I have the background knowledge in strength and conditioning and I know what it takes to train and diet consistently to achieve high results.
In the guidelines it states that the winner should fit your ideal of what will make others envious of a fitness lifestyle. They were looking for a girl who projects beauty and shape with a balanced physique. Sports Model consists of three rounds. A Bikini round, Fitness/Workout round and a Dress round. The girls are judged on : Body, Appearance, Stature, Symmetry and Structural flaws.
The first competition was held in Wagga Wagga and I placed second.
I was then approached to train with the NSW President Danny Chau who then happened to be 2000 and 2004 Mr Olympia/Australian Body Building Champion.
Danny took me under his wing and gave me the confidence and tips of the trade in what it takes to be the next Sports model Champion.
Later in July 2005 after intense training and conditioning i won the 2005 Sydney Sports model Title and in October 2005 came second in the Sports Model division at the NSW Natural Physique Titles. I later travelled to Melbourne with my family and the NSW team for the Australian Natural Physique Titles and placed sixth out of twenty two other stunning sports models from all over the country. With all the success from 2005 I have appeared in Australian Fitness Magazines and posters representing Women in Fitness as well as taking part in presentations for the Health and Soul expo and Fitness Expo.
In April 2006 i worked hard for a double win at the ‘Danny Chau Natural Classic Sydney Sports Model’ and the NSW City Vs Country Natural Physique Titles in the same week. After this success i was approached by Danny to be sponsored by Top Nutrition and to travel to promote the company, which will assist me in lifting and raising my profile as a Professional Sports model/Fitness Model in Australia and in the world.
Since the beginning of 2007 with the establishment of the WNBF (World Natural Bodybuilding Federation) http://www.wnbf.net.au/ , I have followed Danny Chau (who is now the Australian President) to be apart of the first Australian Natural Federation and I have raised my personal ‘ bar ‘ so to speak by moving up to compete in a new division Fitness Model from Sports Model. I now represent the Fitness Model division in Australia and my image is present on all the promotional material for the WNBF including the web site and posters ect.
I have chosen to compete for the WNBF because :The WNBF’s drug-testing guidelines are the driving force behind the federation, providing competitors with a fair and level playing field EACH and EVERY time they compete. Competitors can now display their physiques and be rewarded for their hard work against other TESTED and PROVEN TRULY NATURAL competitors.
Details of how to be a fitness model and how would you classify a Fitness Model:
The classification of a fitness model is to have toned muscularity, relative leanness, overall symmetry, facial beauty, stage presence, poise, elegance and an overall fit look
On stage in a competition environment Fitness Models are judged on the above and compared to each other. Comparisons will be made in the standard quarter-turns and the turns are designed to allow contestants to show themselves to the judges and exhibit stage presence that enhances their presentation in a bikini and dress. The Sports models are like a Fitness Model except that the Sports Models are softer & less muscular.
To be a Fitness Model takes a lot of hard work and determination.
Basically getting ready for a comp it will take at least a year to prepare and a plan/chart developed with the phases you will go through to reach your target goals through the year.
Example:
First four months concentrating on changing habits and changing patterns in lifestyle and trying different training programs and implementing a good diet to follow to create the change in yourself to build good quality muscle.
At the fifth through to the eighth month knowing what suits you and sticking by it also focussing still on building muscle. This is also hugely determined on how you look at the time though and what’s still required to look like the ultimate ‘package.’ Some girl’s build quite quick and the trick is not to look too big as that would be getting away from the actual criteria required.
At the last months before the comp the idea is to maintain and not lose what you have and just leaning down for the competition by increasing the cardio intake and ‘tweaking’ or adjusting the diet by either adding or decreasing certain foods such as nuts or the protein shake that assists in muscle building. Every body is different in terms of what suit them might not suit another so the best idea is to experiment with food and find the right diet that will get you looking your best.
Hobbies/interests: I like anything outdoors from sun baking on the beach to bike riding and horse riding on my mum and dads farm down the coast. I do a lot of travelling to visit family and friends in the country.
What do you do to relax? I like to hang out by the pool at home or I go to the beach. Sometimes on the odd occasion I take part in ‘retail therapy’ with friends or I usually enjoy sitting on the lounge at home and chat away with friends on the phone to catch up the latest goss.
Why did you start weight training/when? I started weight training when I was thirteen when I was training as an athlete. I competed for six years in the 400m and 800m and Cross-country running. I started up again at 22 after being inspired by my aunty (a personal trainer) to compete in the Sports Model (City vs Country competition) in Wagga in 2005.
Competition history:
I have been competing in modelling pagents outside my sport for five years before I started competing as a Fitness model in comps such as Miss Inside Sport, Miss Indy, Miss Rally Australia and Miss Bikini Australia. But I find more enjoyment and satisfaction competing in my sport and the following is my history:
Sports Model Country Titles in Wagga Wagga 2005. Second place.
Sports Model Danny Chau Classic (Sydney Titles) 2005. First place.
Sports Model NSW Titles in Sydney 2005. Second place.
Sports Model Australian Titles in VIC 2005. Sixth place
Sports Model Danny Chau Classic (Sydney Titles) 2006. First place.
Sports Model Country Titles in Wagga Wagga 2006. First place
Sports Model NSW Titles in Sydney 2006. First place in short class
WNBF Fitness Model Fem-Tastic NSW VS QLD 2007. Overall Winner
WNBF Fitness Model Sydney Titles 2007. Runner Up
WNBF Pro Figure- Asia Pacific Figure Champion October 2007

The best and worst part of competing:
The best is actually being on stage knowing you can finally show off what you have been training so hard for and soak up the atmosphere and take in the adrenaline you get from the crowd. And the opportunities to train some weekends and hang out with my friends that I have met during competition cycles (My fellow WNBF Sports Models and Fitness Models). The worst is the dieting and the irritation you get as a result as you can’t go out to your favourite restaurants or cafés and eat out so your social life slowly diminishes over this period.
What makes someone a bodybuilder?
I guess someone who has the dedication and the commitment to the sport and the great knowledge of nutrition and weights. A bodybuilder is someone who can also listen to their body and know the limits and know what their body needs to be bigger or leaner and at the same time very healthy and not to take unrepairable risks such as the use of steroids. I do believe in keeping it natural!!
How has being a Fitness model impacted on your life? Work, Relationship, etc.
Being a Fitness model in the beginning did not make much of an impact on my life only when I researched and learnt to train harder and diet more strict to improve my body then did it really make a huge impact. Some parts of my social life are affected during competition season only and when all my friends and family are eating out or catching up for drinks if I do go I avoid eating with them or drinking I usually eat before I meet them. Luckily my friends and family understand as most of them have already watched me compete and understand the sacrifices I have to make. Overall it probably has improved my quality of life I feel more energetic, healthier, happier and confident about my body. As well as the great opportunities out there that have come my way as a result of being in this industry.
Hopes and ambitions for your personal life?
My ambition is to be the best I can be in everything I do.
I hope to take on further studies in Project Management in the next six months. I aim to buy property in the next two years on the outskirts of Sydney or an investment in Sydney. I plan to travel overseas again sometime next year to Europe. I wish to eventually settle down after achieving all I can in my sport and I would like to put all my energy into my career as a Project Manager/Account Manager. Ultimately I would like to eventually live in a semi rural area most likely near Sydney on a farm in the future and live happy ever after…
